The Design:
A workplace that simply captures and frames the Pacific coast with the mastery of deep openings, space, and contemporary elegance. The Cliff Edge Offices have a disarming effortlessness while situated and clinging to the edge of a cliff, jutting over the ocean with a 70 meter drop.
The acrobatics of the structure and evident projection into the air over the sea bellow sets the scene of a perfect workplace.
It is a modest, simple structure made of recycled shipping containers, concrete, steel columns (for structural support) and on-site sandstone, featuring deep punctured openings that steer the eye outwards to drink in the views.
The deep reveals of the windows are like picture frames, containing and controlling the view so that standing in the office is almost like standing in an art gallery with 4D art in front of you. The gallery effect is heightened by the wash of natural light from floor to ceiling glass panel windows that are on the tip ends of each container office.
Modified “high cube” shipping containers make a gracious and vibrant two level Office Block with ground floor deck and courtyard making it a functional, eco and aesthetic performing building. The concept proposes softening the industrial quality of the containers using natural elements (Sandstone) found on the Dover Heights Sydney site. The opposition of sandstone and exposed corrugated steel provides design counterpoint. The Containers Hover over a natural sandstone deck area with a courtyard providing daylight shading.
With brilliant curving embrace of glass, corrugated steel and concrete that positively enhances as well as literally reflects its setting.
Used shipping containers are the refuse of modern, internationalized, consumerist societies. About 50% are designed for a single use. The cost of logistics for their re-use being prohibitive, they simply pile up at major shipping nodal points and are left to rust. The problem increases as we consume more and the populations grow.
Upcycling used containers is an extremely “green” and environmentally responsible alternative. Not only are these containers structurally sound, durable and eco friendly; their strongly expressed forms, have a unique, lego-like beauty, popular to the contemporary world.

Inside Out:
The contemporary design was originally influence by Durbach Blocks’ ‘Holman House’ also situated in Dover Heights Sydney where the key element was the view. With a brilliant curving embrace of glass, corrugated steel and concrete that positively enhances as well as literally reflects its setting, It is a building that doesn't embody, but actually redefines where it is. The building draws on the topographical and surface characteristics of the land as a starting point for its design.
The focus here is the way the building connects to the ground, and the ocean view - connecting “inside and out” getting that ‘flow’ and making the most of the coastal and pacific view. Each container office (5 containers in total) comprise of precious, sofisticated and vibrant interiors with big connection to the outside.
Each office hovers off the sandstone ground deck whilst capturing each angle of the dovers height site. Each office features its own balcony for that extra bit of time-out of the daily work lifestyle, taking in the fresh ocean breeze, picturesque lookout and abundant sunlight.
