Week 4 - Independent Study for Week 5

Poster / Piece of Graphic Art from Chosen Designer:

This poster reflects the saying that "less is more". Very simple and straight to the point - this poster merely states the project proposal and details along with accompanying images. Among these images are two eye catching key photographs of the proposed building that are purposely large to intrigue the viewer to have a read of what the article is about.

Although the turquoise underlined text could have been avoided in order to be able to read it better - it however is the highlight of the poster it self with the slender turquoise lines and heading text to match. I believe the images themselves which include the elevations, sections and 3d perspective could have been lined up or placed better - along with the text justified and broken down into paragraphs. The smaller images are a little pixelated however they do give the viewer a fair idea of the concept.

I consider this piece to be successful however it could have been executed better without looking somewhat rushed with blobs of images and text.

Week 4 - Refining Assignment 1 Outputs

300 Word Reflection On Project Thus Far:

At first, i didn't know what to expect from "Augmented Reality". However i soon learnt that creating ideas is more than just one process. It is a process of different techniques, aids of elimination and programs... thinking outside the box, literally. Through the use of Augmented Reality to which has influenced my ability to virtually convey concepts, designs, plans and different avenues of real time environments in the field of architecture. The project has been unfolding week by week and coming along well. It is a lesson that i will take with me in future, along with the knowledge of Augmented Reality.

My chosen Architects - Herwig Baumgartner and Scott Uriu, principles of B+U Architects were my inspiration. Constantly pushing the boundaries of architecture and urban design, B+U experiment with spatial concepts and techniques outside the architectural profession; music, science and computation. In saying this, the main fascination i have with their work is the fact that they have created software that transforms 'sound waves' into three dimensional forms to which they create intensifying and curvaceous forms of architecture. And therefore, the way they characterize both a fluid transition between landscape and architecture with formal and structural elegance based on such a theme inspired me to do the same - Create something that was out of the ordinary, and  outside of the contemporary architectural norm.

I decided to create an environment based on the "fluid transition between landscape and architecture" creating a fluid-like building to house my spore creature whom also mimics the curvaceous concept. A concept based on a parasitic building environment leaching off the environment - the connection between landscape and architecture, whilst also keeping in mind the forms of the B+U Projects i have based my process on.

As for my project progress, i am happy with my design concept - and the background inspiration, and i am determined to portray it as best i can in the next few weeks.

Week 3 - Independent Study for Week 4

The 6 AR Markers for my final physical box.

The above markers will be used as a tool in expressing Augmented Reality. Each marker works hand in hand  emphasising the angles of my proposed project environment. The initial idea was with reference to architectural working drawings/plans - which mark out a design idea/development into a coherent proposal. In saying this, architectural working drawings communicate ideas and concepts whilst using Elevations (North, South, East, West - as the markers show above), Sections (the section marker), and plans (the top view marker). I have proposed to achieve this same expression with the above 6 AR box markers. My idea for this method is to allow easier understanding of the various views - whilst keeping close to traditional architectural terminology.

The following video is more so like a documentation of the future using augmented reality. I found it fascinating.

Week 3 - Environments in BuildAR

Bellow are a few images and video's of my Attempts at using BuildAR

I had some trouble with the program, exporting from sketchup into 3ds max and then importing my environments. I installed windows on my mac laptop,  and all of the above programs (which had taken a few days - time wasted). Finally got a BLUE BOX!

My environments wouldn't show on my screen, and with some help from peers, they solved my problem - My model was TOO BIG and did not fit on the screen. Edited the model etc, finally got it working, although some blue boxes kept coming up in place of my model.

Week 2 - Independent Study for Week 3

The Evolution of My Design:

My first Sketch of the futuristic environment i wanted to portray. This particular sketch is almost alien-like with a Vortex that draws energy for the environment from the water bellow, and mountain/glacier it is attached and leeching off. The vortex (virticle swirl) also acts as a pathway for the creature to leave its building environment, and hunt for prey.

1.

2. This sketch is a little similar, and close up however a little more spherical and curvaceous - again with the same concept as above.

3. The final design outcome - a mixter of both the above without the vortex. Instead - parasitic tentickles with the same concept of feeding off and creating energy from the ice-berg/glacier it is attached to.

The environment: Glacier/Ice-bergs in the middle of the ocean...
